Square Plastic long Tom pots
« on: February 03, 2008, 11:40:13 PM »
I have been searching for a source of 9cm long Tom pots. I can seemingly get wonderful bargains on standard 7 and 9cm pots but not Long Toms.  Does anyone have a source of these please ?

Hi, Ian, in haste... here are two pages from old forum which may be of help:
http://www.srgc.org.uk/discus/messages/321/33233.html

http://www.srgc.org.uk/discus/messages/4/727.html
Where various suggestions are made.
Main gist is this: We have recently had some very good black square plastic pots (of the 9x9x13 cm size, I think, they are a very good size for bulbs!. We got them from LBS Plastics, Cottontree, near Colme, Lancashire BB8 7BW. Their website is at
www.lbs-group.co.uk They charge about £10 delivery for orders under £100, but free after that! Perhaps you could join up with some chums to place an order, as we did. They have a good selection of square pots in all sizes, also tools etc. We were very pleased with the speed of delivery and quality of the stuff.

Hope they have a size to suit you!

Cheers, M

Had trouble navigating the site Maggi.  Do they do direct sales?  Looked as if they only point you to retail suppliers?  Maybe I'm not reading things right tho... has been known.

Chris, I haven't a clue... Ian dealt with the order..... My main interaction with pots of any kind involves cleaning them!

Chris, try this link (one of the ones Maggi posted from the old forum). It takes you to a page with extra-deep pots, click on the extra deep pot and that takes you to a selection of sizes with 'buy' option.

Only trouble is, they're round long toms. I couldn't navigate the site for the square long toms either.

Ah, if you click on 'Garden Centre Supplies' then (at the bottom of the page) click on 'Click here to see full range of Garden Centre Supplies products' that takes you to a page with pots and prices, but no long toms, just normal square pots in various sizes.

This link, posted on a different thread, seems to be a goof retail source for normal heavyweight square pots. I'm ordering some from them:

They must be available in smaller quantities because, as Vincent van Gogh once said, I've got one ear. No idea where it came from. :-\

Hi Ian did you ever manage to find 9cm square rigid plastic long toms. I used to buy these from Rapidex who's phone number was 0565 87226 but as you can tell its long since changed. I have a few left out of my original 1000 purchased in the 80's but have not been able to source another manufacturer, So any help would be gratefully received.

Will, I found a source of 11cm square long toms. Maybe too large for you, but take a look anyway:

Whilst browsing an orchid web-site I spotted some Cymbidium long toms and wondered if they were what people have been looking for. It seems they com in 7cm x 18cm and 9cm x 21cm.
As they are orchid pots they may not be suitable for other needs.

Thanks for the link Graham. Unusual to find such I agree. I really think I can use some across the board, as I was looking for depth, with less volume and good drainage.
