Tufa and Moss
« on: April 14, 2015, 12:17:24 PM »
Finally decided to have a go at a Tufa bed. Got the Tufa, got lots of little plants. Today's question is how do I remove/control moss on Tufa?

Cheers

I don't grow on tufa but I always wait for the moss to establish. I like moss!

Some moss will give shelter for young seedlings, which will establish and give a natural colonisation effect.

Hi Matt, I don't mind some moss but I need some control. This garden breeds the stuff at an alarming rate.

In which case I'd suggest selective manual removal, which could be a pleasant meditative activity. That way you can expose rock where you want it but leave moss for softening/seedlings in strategic places. Of course, I'm assuming you don't have acres of mossy tufa to clear :)

Hi Martin,
We don't have much trouble with moss here. Have you thought of moving to a hotter climate? ;D ;D ;D
And we can't get Tufa here so you won't have that problem to worry about!
cheers

Martin I use a small wire brush to remove some moss from my tufa, it will always return though.
