Crocus vernus 'Oradea' - a very nice Crocus selection from Janis Ruksans.
Crocus versicolor 'Painters Joy' - new to me but such a stunning good colour in bud! Also from Janis Ruksans.

Crocus tommasinianus albus?  It appeared this year in a piece of rough ground where I have some Narcissus  planted.  I remember I did have it once and it was such a miserable flower I threw the corms away.  Obviously it is a tough survivor.

Crocus imperati and Crocus etruscus corms had escaped being eaten by voles but the flowers disappeared last night, the leaves were shortened and the head of Narcissus cyclamineus was nipped off but not eaten.  I suspect deer or rabbit.

At last some sunshine in SW Scotland and the crocuses have opened fully.  Our garden was part of an old Victorian property and I think these crocuses have been here for a long time.  I'm not a crocus expert - could someone help to identify them please?  There is tremendous variation in colour and veining. Such a pleasure!

I have seen a similar selection in the Victorian Cemetery in Norwich.  I think that they are all forms derived from Crocus vernus, probably whatever was in commerce at the time of planting.  Almost all are very beautiful.  In Norwich they meet Crocus tommasinianus in the cemetery and many attractive hybrids are found.

That's interesting. I think I'll plant some tommasinianus among them then in the autumn and see what happens. Thanks for the idea.
