A wonderful programme
« on: February 07, 2015, 07:27:41 PM »
Recorded earlier this week but only just watched by Brian and I, can I reccommend to you a silent documentary showing the ill fated 1924 Mallory/Irvine expedition to climb Everest.  The photography is marvellous for the time and the sense of space and grandeur of the scenery bring home what an enormous endeavour it was.  Today's films seem to make it too small.

I think you can still see it on BBCiplayer, it was on BBC4.  Not a plant in sight but what a stunning project.  The film has been restored by the British Film Institute. If you are interested in mountains I think you will enjoy it.

Didn'y think this was was quite that long Maggi, there were 2 or 3 about Everest on the same evening.

You are absolutely right Maggi (how did I dare to doubt you). The programme was so entrancing the time passed very quickly.
