Rory McEwen

I don't know if this is the right area in which to post this but no doubt Maggi will sort it out if it isn't.

BBC4 are showing a programme done by his son-in-law Jools Holland in a week's time on Rory McEwen arguably the greatest UK botanical artist of the 20th Century (and Scottish to boot). The music will at least be good.

The flyer is below.

Thanks for the heads up on this one - I have a full copy of the A3 Auricula book he illustrated - I also have a few plates framed from another one which had been broken up for its prints
They are superb - I think the queen has the originals in her collection at Windsor

Yes, thanks for the tip-off. I don't usually look at programmes before 8.00pm. Certainly one to watch.

I remember him and his brother on Tonight.  It was about the time I started playing guitar and getting interested in the Blues. I remember him playing "Candy Man"which he learned from Mississippi John Hurt. The first time I heard it I was sure that he had twice as many fingers as me !
I had absolutely no idea that he was a botanical artist.  Friday's programme is a must.

For those forumists unaware of Rory McEwen's talents can I suggest viewing..

Yemen, what a country ... Haraz mountains, Socotra, Sana'a, Hadramaut, the empty quarter.... a country of stunning, mind altering beauty...and the friendliest of people.
