Bodnant Garden-May 19 2014

We paid a very short visit to Bodnant last year and vowed to go again and spend much longer. So, a few days back in the Homeland including a treck over Malham Cove and up the Dry Valley to Malham Tarn and back via Gordale Scar, a couple of pints of Thwaite's Wainwright and some excellent beef sandwiches before a good nights sleep. The following day we set off for Llandudno for a couple of days which included a full day at Bodnant and a few hours at Aberconwy Nursery as well.

Bodnant was really looking it's best and far better than my pictures could show it with Rhododendrons to the fore, Lewisias in the walls (although not as many as there used to be by all accounts), the Laburnum Arch in full flower, and just a bit late for the Erythroniums. Sorry no names on any of these.

Cheers David, I love the bit down by the river and they were tarting up the entrance last time we went.

We were at Bodnant on Wednesday. It is about 60 miles from us so we tend to go once every month or so throughout the year.

Super photos, David- I just love these virtual visits. Thank you.
Eric- thanks for the slide show link, too.
I'm in real need of tea and cake now, feel like I've been there!
These reports really do show what visitors can expect to see - better than the tourist sites, I reckon.

What a wonderful garden, thanks for the tour. Loved the Lewisias spilling out of the walls.

I regret that I was not quick enough to get a picture of the kingfisher which flew along the stream in the Yew Dell. Next time................maybe.
I must have over 1,000 pictures of Bodnant in every season too, difficulty now is taking ones which are different in some way. But they keep adding new areas and opening up new vistas and changing the planting.so I reckon we can carry on taking pictures for a while yet.

Nice pictures David. They remind me that I really must get back to that part of the world.
When were you in Malham? I was there last Sunday (18th) with a camera club outing so we could have passed one another at some point. I can vouch for the Thwaite's Wainwright beer, mind you it was a hot day, anything would have been welcome.

We enjoyed your pictures so much David, brought a lot of memories back to us, when visiting this beautiful garden some years ago in early October. We should really make that tour again in this period of the year

Thanks Luit and Peter.
Peter, we were in Malham the day before you (Saturday 17th) It was a hot day too but surprisingly quiet in the car parks and the village.
