Autumn flowering daffodils in Andalusia - 3rd to 9th of Nevember
« on: November 11, 2013, 02:47:48 PM »
After I got the confirmation via internet weather report that there was sufficient rainfall in Southern Spain and it was  safe to assume that most of the autumn flowering daffs were flowering I booked a flight to Jerez de la Frontera und then started some trips in the southern part of Andalusia.
It was an excellent year for the species mentioned here and from all species expected I only missed the most early Narcissus cavanillesii .
I'll start with some impressions from a site near Chiclana de la Frontera.

Part 1.
1 - 5. Narcissus miniatus (obsoletus) - in the last pic together with Scilla and Leucojum

I am nearly speechless! You are a lucky man, Gerd, to be able to visit these plants. Thank you so much for sharing them with us.

Gerd,
amazing images and so different after rainfalls - I know the area around Chiclana de la Frontera a visit when it was bone dry hot August.
Best wishes

Gerd,
how wonderful that you could check that the rainfall had happened before booking the flight! For us it would be just the luck of the draw!
Fantastic pics, thanks so much for sharing with us,
cheers

Gerd,
What a successful trip. Wonderful to see these Narcissus growing like weed. Wish we had those kind of 'weed' here!
Did you see any viridiflorus in that area?

Thank you alltogether for these encouraging replies!
 Poul - here is viridiflorus

Now part 4

1. Narcissus viridiflorus site along the road Facinas - Tarifa
2. Narcissus viridiflorus - growing on both sides of the road
3. Narcissus x xanthochlorus - the hybrid of N. cavanillesii and N. viridiflorus
                                                              - very close to the latter one - the infertility points to a hybrid origin
4. Crocus serotinus
5. Scilla autumnalis (Prospero autumnale)

Gerd, terrific places and pictures, I'm glad you can see once again this spectacle in the perfect moment.
Not sure if it is N x xanthochlorus that have the teplas not reflexed, although it certenly has this lime green colour.
This crocus maybe could be C. clusii that grows in the cost from Portugal to Algeciras, It has reticula like tunics.
