After the success of the Irish Snowdrop Day, "A Celebration and Naming  of Irish Snowdrops" in Offaly, Republic of Ireland  last weekend, here's something by Paddy Tobin that will be of interest to those enthused by the 'drops that have been found in Ireland :

http://irishgardenplantsociety.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/Some-Irish-Snowdrops-by-Paddy-Tobin.pdf

I am very flattered by this posting, Maggi, and by the kind comments which followed. Many thanks for your kindness.

The two articles were written for the newsletter of the Irish Garden Plant Society about two years ago. The list of Irish snowdrops there is  not complete but I was inclined to stick with those I knew best rather than depend on what I had heard of read about.

Now, Mark, did I hear you say you had a spare bulb????

That's a stunning snowdrop!

I just wondered if anyone was going to the RHS show tomorrow? I'm a little put off by all that's happened, but work would allow a very quick trip down...

I'm trying to decide at the last minute...

I think you'll find a good few forumists there, Anthony, although not me this year.

Having just recovered from a successful NGS opening on Sunday I would like to thank everyone who came, from both near and far, for their kind support and comments. It is enjoyable to share the interest in snowdrops and our garden with others.
Many thanks

I managed to get to Carole's garden this year and very much enjoyed it.  Carole makes great virtue of the necessity of dealing with a large number of tall trees.  She has a fantastic garden with some wonderful displays of snowdrops as well as other winter plants.    Here is just one example of her many snowdrops.

Almost in Scotland.

So pleased the day went well, Carole - it is wonderful that there are people like you willing to share their gardens with the public. I'll bet all the visitors had a super time.

Dunninald .. we had a great afternoon there, Sunday past. Some great plantings through the woodlands, long views through gaps and cleared spaces that lead your eye nicely .. some huge patches with large spaces between them. A good mix of forms and some very generous self-seeding in places.

http://dunninald.weebly.com/

Very welcoming vibe. Also, excellent soup, cakes, and very generous pot of tea. We felt that being charged £18,000 for tea, cake and soup for two was a bit steep, but recalculation brought the figure down to much more reasonable level.
Would post a pic but can't seem to get the file size down for some reason.

by dint of much crushing

And an acre or two of woodland to grow them in, at that price.

Well, I'm a great believer that we can learn something new every day and one of my day's lessons has been news of  Dunninald  - I confess I'd never heard of the place and it looks lovely - I see they have a bluebell day in May too.
How embarrassing not to have known of this castle  :-[ Mind you, I'm notoriously stingy so perhaps with teas in the thousands it's better I didn't know - shock might have killed me!
