geranium x oxonianum whith white flowers
« on: June 14, 2013, 11:59:57 AM »
Among the many cvs what is the geranium oxonianum with the whitest flowers?
I grow the white form of G.versicolor, one of the parents of x oxonianum, and i'd like to know if there is also a white oxonianum.

The purest white of all x oxonianum is 'Ankum's White', I believe, John.

:o Now that's a very interesting one, Mark!!!!
The contrast between the flowers and the foliage is better than in K.A., to my eyes.
White geraniums are not so numerous, and the blue anthers add to its beauty!
The close-up reminds me of Geranium aconitifolium (aka rivulare...), even though the shape is different.

I have never seen this Geranium.

G. cinereum is also looking good but only three flowers. I think it does not like the trough it grows in.

Kirsty was looking great but the flowers have been ruined by the rain

I have a seedling phaeum with serrated edges. According to the National Collection holder of G. phaeum there isn't a cultivar with petals like this

That fashionly tattered phaeum is also a beauty, Mark!
Some kindly Leprechaun has been at work in your garden, I'd say! ;D
Aconitifolium/rivulare is a true beauty, both for leaves and flowers, but it only blooms once. It thrives here in semi-shade, and I think it wouldn't like dry conditions.
In terms of low-growing geraniums, have you tried 'Tanya Tendall'?
It's a lovely  one, with tiny olive-green foliage and dainty small  flowers, and it blooms here from may/june  to the first frosts. It is said to accept nearly any aspect. I'm sure it would look nice in a rockery!
