Today some of us met up again in the Wenhams garage to look at the preliminary work Graham
has done on the  Club stand for 2013. It will be bigger than 2012 with a new section at
 floor level. This new area is shown in the first picture. The upper level will be the same size as the whole stand was last time. This bit is not yet up in the garage  but you can see last year's as it is still on this website.
 The new bit is the valley on the plan which show the habitats. A bigger stand should show  the plants better with less crushing -it also means more plants so would members within range of Ingliston start thinking about what they might contribute-more info on this later.

The latest report from the SRGC/ Gardening Scotland Team:

"Preparations continue  for the club stand at Gardening  Scotland  2013.
Graham Wenham has built the frame for the new lower level part and  the
transition  wall. There are still boards with rock fronts to attach to the
wall. The upper area is the same as last year's whole stand. However
Graham's garage is not big enough to hold the enlarged stand so it will not
be assembled until it gets to the showground in the last week of May. There
is a plan  on an earlier post. Hopefully Ingliston  will be warmer than  the
garage currently described by its owner as b****y freezing."

We need help from members to man the Club stand once the event opens to the public.  Chatting about the plants and the Club, selling seeds and just being helpful is what's involved.  The dates are Friday 31 May, Sat 1 and Sun 2 June.  You'll get a free pass to the event and time to look round as well.  So, if you'd like to be involved, e-mail me asap and say which day you're free.

This afternoon the stand was moved in two heavily laden cars from Graham Wenham's garage to the show hall. We were one of the first groups of exhibitors to start assembling. The upper level  is based on a series  of boxes screwed together onsite.

The base for the rock ridges then put in place and rocks  glued to backing sheets added. The new floor level area is then added and  rock facing added to simulate a cliff between the two levels - the rock changes half  way along being  conglomerate to the left and limestone to the right.

This on-going explanation of the process is quite fascinating.
We can already see how much progress has been made.

I expect the Wenham household will scarcely recognise their garage without all the kit!

The SRGC display even gets a, very brief, mention in the RHS June edition of 'The Garden'.
Please keep putting the pictures up, Stan, as Maggi says it is fascinating.

Today a large bag of compost went on the stand and the rest of the rock features- the cliff between the two levels and the stratified limestone outcrops are now visible. Others prepared labels and tidied plants. The rock ridge and shady north corrie are almost completely planted. We have more plants than we can use - a good position to be in but we filled the adjacent stand and had to assure Border Belles that it will be clear by Tuesday when they start work!

Today the limestone outcrop was planted up and gravel added  while others watered all the pots - essential if the plants are to last through the show - more labels printed on our new machine  and if needed checked  against the Plantfinder or Internet.
