Hi all ,
we are back from our latest trip : Mallorca
We know this island from several travels and we like it really !
Here are some pics :
We start in Germany in snow ( after a horrible driving to the airport )
View to the french alps
On the way to our appartment
A nice surprise from the owners
the appartment was only 10 m from the sea
beaches
-
Our first walking was to Cape Ferrutz :
-
on this way we saw many Cyclamen balearicum -some with nice silverleaves
.....and a small scorpion ( by taking the pics )
-
a other trip was the nice Cala Boquer :
on evening a good restaurant : Torre de Canyamel
-
The next excursion goes to the Cape Formentor :
-
near the way in Serra Tranmontana :
old olive tree
Narcissus tazetta
Dranunculus muscivorus
-
a really interesting plant on Mallorca is :
Leucojum aestivum v. pulchellum
( it grows only on the islands of Sardinia + Mallorca )
-
after a really hard change of wether ( now we had winter ) was a lot of snow in the mountains -never seen before !!!
The owner of our appartment told us later this was the coldest week in Mallorca since 25 years :o
the snow was between 25 -30 cm ......
two days later we tried a trip .....
-
in the montains is possibly to find
Helleborus foeditus
we had no luck with finding the other endemic Hell. lividus ( maybe next time ....)
-
but we are more succsessfull in this time with finding a really rare plant :
Paeonia cambessedesii
( with some help from nice friends ) ;)
-
a beautiful place and always worth for a visit is
Sa Calobra and the Torrent de Pareis
-
our last visit was the city of Soller :
the train from Palma de Mallorca to Soller
on this height grows oranges and citrons
and special for Maggi :
Enseimada ( mhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh)
Enjoy
Hans 8)

Looks a great trip Hans, thanks so much for posting. I'd love to see that Paeonia cambessedesii open!
-
Seems you had a good holiday in spite of the Mallorcan snow, Hans.
Thank you for the Enseimada..... I am enjoying it with a cup of mocca! :)

Maggi ,
we could only 2 day not make our trips - one day was heavy storm ( on this day we goes to a mill for olive oil )
the other day was rain ( mixed with snow ) - but on afternoon we could start .
We had luck we we walking with rain !
But it was really pretty cold ( in the mountains only + 2° )
-
Lovely pictures Hans thanks for posting them, even if Maggi got the Enseimada :-X

near the way in Serra Tranmontana :
old olive tree
Narcissus tazetta
Dranunculus muscivorus
Hans, thanks for the wonderful and wild photos of this region of Mallorca :) I'm amazed that a scorpion was out and about with all that wintry weather!
Can you tell me a little about Dranunculus muscivorus tucked into that rock habitat? At least you saw signs of Spring with the lovely Narcissus tazetta growing so prolifically they seem to be climbing all over one another :D
I love the old gnarled trunks of ancient olive trees and the silvery leaves that dance in the sun - when it's out 8)
-
Thank you Hans !
We had a wonderful stay on Mallorca thanks to you ! ;D ;D ;D ;)

Thank you Robin ;D
I have never seen on Mallorca a scorpion before -so we are very glad !
To the Dranculus : I have this plants only seen on Cape Formentor - they grows on really rocky habitat ( full sun and windy ) they grows in fissures and holes of the calcy stones
The Narcissus grows on a not typical place high on the mountains ( on the top of a rock near the street ) - as we drive a second time in this area I could it not more found .....all was covered with snow !
Yes -the olive tree was very impressiv ....they must be very old ( maybe plantet from the arabian peoples )

There was some ...but I have no idea about this plant...

Great report and photographs, Hans.
An amazing change in the weather while you were there but, thankfully, it did not interfere with your enjoyment.
I found it interesting to see the Tracycarpus fortuneii as I grow it in the garden.

-
Thank you - I did not know the name of this plants !
-
Isn't this more likely to be the European or Mediterranean fan palm Chamaerops humilis?
-
Thank you Ashley .....you are right with this name ;D
I have just looked in one of my books for the flora of Mallorca
-
Isn't this more likely to be the European or Mediterranean fan palm Chamaerops humilis?
Probably! :-[ :D

My mistake, Hans. Maggi and Ashley have explained all above.
Paddy
