Visited a friends garden last Friday and was greeted by this wonderful display of saxas. The pictures just don't do the display justice. These are in  a raised trough type structure about 8 feet long with must be well over 100 different plants most in flower and all grown and displayed beautifully it was a real pleasure. I have shown a close up of one small part of the bed

We have not seen what you have, Ian, but your pictures give a very good impression. This must be fantastic! No more pics? Thank you anyway for showing.

What a grand display..... that's something to look forward to in any Spring, isn't it?
Thanks for bringing us the photos, Ian and congrats to your chum on a lovely colony of plants.

Fabulous - especially nice when the plants are in a raised bed/trough for close inspection. Personally, I much prefer to see saxes and other cushions grown in this 'natural' form than perfect hemispheres in a pot. Didn't there used to be classes at the shows for cushion plants grown 'au naturel'?

There still are at some shows, I think.
In SRGC rules  a natural cushion wouldn't be excluded anyway.

Those are really incredibly good Ian. What a wonderful way to grow these saxes. Considering how many are available here, our display area would just about fit in a shoebox. :'( :'( :'(

Beautiful Callis Luc. I always have to enlarge to picture to appreciate them because otherwise they look like any ordinary-seeming daisy. :o

I am not sure I want to show my humble contribution  :-[
All those imaginary saxes and a beautiful Calianthemum :o

After some snow last night the few plants in the open was covered but those in the woodland fared better.
Helleborus thibetanus and another Hellebore, and dropping snowdrops.

Just some impressions from a walk along the riverbank of the Wupper, a tributary of the Rhein (Rhine). There is a riparian forest with an impressive richness of spring flowers.

1. first Corydalis solida were opening
2. Anemone nemorosa - also first flowers
3. + 4. Galanthus nivalis near the end of its flowering time
5. first Ranunculus ficaria
6. Salix caprea
7. Prunus species
8. Cornus mas
9. Arum maculatum
10. Hedera helix

Please Enjoy
