I'm afraid in my book "pop music" is an oxymoron and just demonstrates how we celebrate and reward mediocrity, and that is giving them the benefit of the of the doubt. Most of them couldn't sing if their life depended on it! It's just a noise, and mostly emanating from the perpetrator's nose! ???

Driving with a teenage daughter, I get to hear lots of pop music (yay! :o), much of it a blend of pop-rap ::).  One that sounds okay, in a cliche catchy way, is Rihanna's Umbrella song, but it gets to an annoying part that has me lunging for the radio buttons to change it, the repetitive lyrics are:
umbrella  - ella  - ella  -  ay - ay - ay
umbrella  - ella  - ella  -  ay - ay - ay
umbrella  - ella  - ella  -  ay - ay - ay
umbrella  - ella  - ella  -  ay - ay - ay
umbrella  - ella  - ella  -  ay - ay - ay  (... lyrics so good, has to be repeated in groups of fives)

I was going to post the youtube url, but visually its rather slick and provocative, so enough said.

Does that include Eric Clapton's interpretation of the blues,  EC (the GOD) is my idol.  Clapton does some Robert Johnson covers, have to admit Johnson's version of Love in Vain is more compelling, but I can't help but idolize any song by Clapton.

Clapton, Rory Block, Alan Grainger...... and anyone else. Johnson was a "one off"

Of course, Johnson is not "pop" either, we're mixing music genres.  Alan, you're 3rd place behind Clapton, eh, that's awesome! ;D

Onion Man, the lyrics of Queens of the Stone Age put Rhianna's Umbrella song in the shade!

"Nicotine, valium, vicodin, marijuana, ecstasy and alcohol.
Cocaine. Nicotine, valium, vicodin, marijuana, ecstasy and alcohol.
Cocaine. Nicotine, valium, vicodin, marijuana, ecstasy and alcohol.
Cocaine. Nicotine, valium, vicodin, marijuana, ecstasy and alcohol.
Cocaine...."

There we go!! Put your earplugs in!!!! ;D

Another (multiple) contender for most irritating songs....... anything by the "Crazy Frog".  I change channel if they are ever on.  From a ringtone to the music chart.... how sad.  :o ::)
Cheers.

I confiscated one of those "push-the-top" sound effect thingies that plays the 'crazy Frog' jingle, from a pupil a few years ago. It's in my school drawer and goes off whenever I have a rummage for a pencil etc. ::)

EC is one of my idols too. Seen him at the Albert Hall a number of times (and got the tee shirts!). I agree that Robert Johnson was a one off and note that EC said he really had to struggle with his technique to play some of his stuff. I prefer to think "homage" rather than "cover".

the most irritating tune for me is that little bit of a tune you can hear from someone else's headphones that you can't quite identify  ;D
