Daphne with no label - owner on holiday
Daphne petraea 'Cima Tombae' - tiny but covered in buds and I want it bad!!! Who lives near Blackthorn?

Very interesting to see the differences in thse daphne.... the first one is hairy all over, leaves, flowers, the lot, while this last little gem appears to have leaves that are so fat and smooth as to be almost those of a succulent, but the buds are still furry! Thank goodness for digital photography, I would never have seen have these details otherwise!

I didnt notice the leaves and hairy buds either until I edited the photos. Both these plants are small with the upper one, with no name about the size of a finger. Just look at the seed head of the moss and the grit

Yes, I see it is a little chap! The D. petraea 'Cima Tombae' has a very sturdy trunk, hasn't it? I like the look of that, too.

Ian Mc. posted a short time ago that Robin White was retiring and Blackthorn was rarely open. Having said that he had a stand at the South West AGS in Exter-without a single Daphne. If he had some I would have bought some.

Lovely daphnes Mark! Happy you seeing them right now. My are only in small buds. We have a very pretty species closely related to D. cneorum – D. juliae (Julia’s daphne). Hope it will flower in 2-3 weeks.

Mark, which is the website with details about Blackthorn? Does Robin White have a website? I wasn't aware of one. As far as I'm aware they're only open a few days in Sept and maybe a couple of days next Spring, and that's it for nursery opening, though they may continue propagating and selling at shows.
