We have a wildflower meadow with 15 native species of orchids, all introduced as seed that we have spread with the help of a gentle breeze. To see a video go to YouTube and search for Newmill: creating a wildflower meadow with orchids.
Jean and I are interested in trying to grow C. calceolus from seed, but it is not possible to access any seed through normal channels. The only option is to produce it ourselves by artificially cross pollinating plants. We are wondering whether SRGC members have plants in their garden soon to come into flower that we could use? The process of artificial pollination does involve pulling the flower apart.
