Growing Daylilies from Seed

Second flower, very fancy edge. Opens flat, nice flower. Just need to get the color more saturated.

New seedling, first flower opened.

Put pollen from the above seedling onto this. Hopefully get the best of both parents. Will probably just do one pod each(both way cross). Mostly interested in blues.

Great colour, what constitutes a 'blue' day lily?

Should say, with the limited space to grow seedlings under LED's through the Winter.  I have to pick and choose....... I rather grow crosses, I think I may get something with a blue eye.

Maybe at some point, I will do more with reds/purples.  With all the seeds that I bought and bonus seeds, going to be some very nice reds and purples ect.

Only want to grow around 50 new seedlings through the Winter. It's alot of work just planting out 50 at a time.

From a colour definition perspective blue and black as a flower colour is difficult to define with accuracy. While there are blue hydrangeas most black flowers are intense purples.

Was crossed with Precious Candy(did both ways). Have been trying my Yoga Man X EKSB pollen that was saved, haven't been able to set a pod yet. Next flower on Blue Jean Cutoffs X Every Knee Shall Bow, will try Yoga Man X EKSB pollen. That cross would be the one to make......

Precious Candy, it's around 5 inch flower, maybe smaller. Hopefully I see lots of blue eyes in the next couple years.

Shape isn't that greatest for me, since i like round and flat.

For a spidery, unusual form, some people would be very happy and junping up and down.

I like it, it's something I can use. Blue eye, and fancy edge.

They use spidery, unusual forms to get a bigger flowers. Hopefully the deer stay away and seeds mature. Time will tell what I get......

It will probably improve in the coming years. Has a thin scape and only 3 buds.

Last flower, only had three buds. Put pollen from Yoga Man X Every Knee Shall Bow on it. Haven't been able to set a pod with it, yet............





The two pods I had set on this seedling with Precious Candy pollen, withered away. Two pods on Precious Candy using the above seedling are still growing.  Will be the best cross I was able to make this year, for blues.

First flower open, can't wait to see the next. Rained two days ago, water had gotten inside the bud.

Maybe by the weekend another flower will be open. I like it, can't wait to see the second flower. It's a big flower, nice fancy edge too.

2x Precious Candy pollen  (5 seeds total)
1x My blue eyed seedling pollen (2 seeds)
1x with it's own pollen (2 seeds)

Been trying to get these to germinate for months, and finally have gotten one seed to germinate.
