New Zealand Snowdrop Study Day in 2017
« on: August 11, 2017, 05:23:43 PM »
2017 Day is, I believe, this coming Sunday,  12th August  - preparations made at Ashburton!
 Pic from Prue Harper ...

Held at 386 Methven Highway on the outskirts of Ashburton, New Zealand - all sorts of sales and talks to enjoy - I'm told there are  is even an extraordinary -and  probably totally unexpected,  guest speaker!

Also there will be talks from Steve Austen, botanist and archivist  on basic snowdrop botany  and snowdrops in art. Prue will give a demonstration of chipping and talk about growing galanthus from seed.
What a great day in prospect!  Enjoy folks!

From Prue Harper

"Marion's Magnet"
Found in the Garden of Marion Saxton when she lived in Christchurch.
This plant was recognised yesterday at the Southern Galanthus Study Day as a plant worthy of note.
An elwesii with long pedicel and very nice inner mark.
It is unusual for an elwesii to have such a long pedicel.
Flowering early peak and well worth growing.

As Prue says " This particular one is very special because it's really as much about the snowdrop as it is Marion herself.
Over many years she has been so generous with giving plants and advice on snowdrops .
Marion is a very special person."

Great to see your happy faces, is it me or are galanthophiles always looking happy in each others company?  I am sure the conversation around the table was wonderful....and 'Marion's Magnet' is a lovely way to recognise a generous plantswoman.
