Quesnelia liboniana (which is a Bromeliad)...................


In all the time that I've been visiting today was the first time that I noticed Brownea macrophylla in bloom............

Strongylodon macrobotrys is not quite in bloom yet..............

Vinca major var. Oxyloba is a Perriwinkle that I could like but like the other species this one appears a bit thuggish.................

I hadn't expected to see a Kniphofia in bloom today.............

I think it's Nonea lutea which can be an absolute thug. I weeded it out of our garden after its second season when nearly every seed from the previous year seemed to germinate; several seedlings still managed to appear even 5 or more years,

To be honest it is all starting rather late this year. The Sophora davjdii (for example) only has barely visible flower buds at the moment.

It is. Thanks! I photographed the label but it was a pencil written one and it was unreadable in the photo.

Some photos from todays visit.

On the walk there I decided to take the long way down Dead Mans Walk where I saw these two Echiums outside Merton College.................




Into the gardens proper and these two Eucomis wre in the porch. Eucomis zambesiaca.............

A really large Crinum..............


Goethea strictiflora was interesting. It is a member of the Mallow family and what you can see here are basically the bracts..............

Anyone want to take a punt at this plant from the tropical house as I couldn't find the tag.............


My best guess is that it is in the Lobelioidea subfamily...............

I had to turn the flash on for Salvia brevilabra as unusually for a Salvia it was growing in deep shade.............

Digitalis stewartii...............


Phlomis x margaritae...............


I need an id for this Verbascum too. It was close to two and a half metres and multi-branched in habit.................

I agree. I have a few coming along from seed so hopefully next year I'll have my own.
