Galanthus nivalis 'Decora'
« on: January 09, 2015, 04:17:44 PM »
After the amazing success of tracking down G. 'Longworth Double' (heading over there tonight!). I was wondering if anyone grew 'Decora'. This is featured in Gunter Waldorf's book Snowdrops. It is from the gardens of Angelina & Branimir Petrisevac in Croatia, the home of 'Decora' Nursery (also the home of the equally lovely Galanthus 'Angelina'). My understanding is that this is one of a few bulbs sent to Gunter by Angelina & Zlatko. Unfortunately Decora (the Nursery) lost a number of snowdrops to Botrytis, including G. 'Decora'. Has anyone ever seen it offered or does anyone grow it?

As I don't have a photo of G. Decora (page 87 Snowdrops) I have attached a photo of another of Angelina & Branimir's snowdrops that did survive the Botrytis currently called Caprea Series 10

No information about the collection of Günter.

The code of the Petrisevac for DECORA was GN ZAP 113

Do you know the code of your CAPREA SERIES 10?
If it came from Zlatko and Angelina so it should have a code number.

What happened to Günters collection?

In the immediate aftermath of his death I understood that his widow, Marlu, would maintain the garden - perhaps that is the case.

'Decora' no longer exists in the garden Waldorf and with me. It died at Günter 'times.
The Galanthus from Istria are obviously sensitive to wet conditions during the summer.

Sad news, Rudi. But understandable - I know  that, for all types of plants over the years, we have probably lost more to summer wet than to winter cold or wet.    >:(

I grow Angelina (pic attached, it isn't my pic) but haven't heard of Decora. I didn't know the origin of Angelina so thanks for that.

Rudi

That is a shame to hear. Sharp drainage is the answer! Thank you for post, Rudi
