seed vernalisation
« on: March 17, 2011, 11:04:10 AM »
How to know if a species need vernalisation or not?Is there a book about this? Some lists somewhere?
I have the Jellito information but there are plenty of species that are not mentioned.
Thank you for your help

I think the most useful guide is on the Ontario Rock Garden site.  They have an A - Z listing of plants and germination codes mostly derived from the work of Deno, plus some information from their members, I think.  "While this data is based primarily on the experience of ORGS members, we have also relied extensively on methods described by Norman Deno (Seed Germination Theory and Practice), Dr. Pavel Slaby ( www.kadel.cz/flora ) and Tom Clothier ( http://tomclothier.hort.net)"

It's a slightly oddly designed site, the Germination Codes are in the left panel, A - Z of species in the right panel but works well.

Professor Deno's books on seed germination are now available online. See:
