Wonderful talk by Ian Young to West Cheshire & Wirral AGS Group on Friday. Hope Ian thought the long journey worth it.  Over 80 members attended.  It's not so long ago that I thought an Erythronium was a brass band instrument - now I know better  !!!!!! - what a great plant, highlighted by an enthusiaastic expert.

I'll send a copy of Issue 116 of the Rock Garden down to you in North Wales by carrier pigeon later this week as it contains a marvellous photo-essay on Erythroniums by Ian Young.

Yemen, what a country ... Haraz mountains, Socotra, Sana'a, Hadramaut, the empty quarter.... a country of stunning, mind altering beauty...and the friendliest of people.

Hi Maggi.....speaking of Erythroniums, did the seeds of americanum and albidum I sent you ever germinate?

You don't have an umbrella Maggi?  ;D

It snowed here on Friday, then I got sunburned Saturday digging a new flower bed. Don't you just love this weather !!!

I have several umbrellas, Alan.... they are all broken. :'(

I'm beginning to hate all weather.... but it seems there's no escaping the ruddy stuff.

I'll give it four weeks Maggi, then I'll be bemoaning the fact that it's too hot in Kentucky for a  Mancunian. Happens every year till November comes. Love Kentucky.... but would kill for a Holland's Meat Pie...or two....or three.
