News of a plant related charitable event at Glasgow Botanic Gardens:

Dear SRGC

I'm organising something at the Glasgow Botanic Gardens and I wonder if you could let your members know about it.  I am getting in touch with the local groups too, but I would be obliged if I could trouble you to also mention the event in any correspondence that you are sending out to them.

We are holding a Plantedd Garden Party charity event to raise money for Greenfingers, who create gardens at children's hospices.  They recently completed a garden at CHAS's Robin House hospice out at Balloch and it's a cause that's close to my heart because I spent a year doing volunteer work for them.

The event will be on Friday, 28 September 2012.  There'll be a charity plant sale, and gardening talks, workshops and Q&As.  The plant stalls will be in the main Kibble Palace glasshouse.

Most of the stalls will be for the plant sale and I would welcome any plant donations from SRGC members.  Could I trouble you to circulate a note to them asking if any of them would be kind enough to donate some plants to raise money for Greenfingers?

Our event will be free of charge and open to the public.  It is also going to tie in with Social Media Week Glasgow, which is part of the worldwide Social Media Week event sponsored by Nokia.

SuperJam - the Scottish success story that supplies more than 2,000 supermarkets across the country - have agreed to donate the jam for our garden party.  A local fabric shop, Mandors, have agreed to donate fabric for us to dress some trees in the Botanic Gardens as a fun way to draw attention to the event.  I hope some of the members of SRGC will come along to the event and hopefully some of them will support us by donating plants.

Kind regards,
David

PS - Plantedd is like an eBay for the things that you want to grow, so what we do is bring together independent nurseries and they sell their plants, bulbs and seeds through our website (www.plantedd.com).  Plantedd is based in Glasgow, in the Entrepreneurial Spark business incubator (funded by Sir Tom Hunter and Sir Willie Haughey).

Plantedd were featured in the Evening Times last month - I attach the article for information.

Thanks for letting others know Maggi.  I hope some of you can make it along!

Hello, I'm a newbie around here but I've met a few folk at Gardening Scotland and at the Ayr Flower Show, and I'll be a fully paid-up member soon so you'll see more of me round these parts (whether you like it or not!)

The first plant I'm sharing is a Lilium nepalense in the garden from this morning and another one from yesterday when it was still stretching its petals in the sun.   :)

I'll post a list of the plants that we'll have for sale nearer the time.

Just a wee reminder that the show's on 28 September 2012 - the last Friday of September - so there's still plenty of time if anybody wants to donate something to raise money for Greenfingers.  You can email me at david.wong@plantedd.com
