Magnolia 'Caerhays Belle'

Giles,

is this a M. campbelli-cultivar?
Asking because M. campbellii is not hard enough for the area. Do you know a good and hard cultivar can try here?

Uli,
'Caerhays Belle' = M.sargentiana var. robusta x M. sprengeri 'Diva'
(if that helps)

I planted M.campbellii (Raffillii Group) 'Charles Raffill' in my own garden last year, and it suffered no damage (lowest temp last Winter here, -18C)

Giles,

good news for the 'Caerhays Belle'. M. sprengeri 'Diva' and M. sargentaina var. robusta hard enough.
Must look for a 'Charles Raffill'. We had only -15 C last winter.

Co-incidentally the July issue of The Garden carries a short report (pg451) on expansion plans at the arboretum  - with new visitor and plant centre, shop and restaurant to open in spring 2011, together with additional 3ha for more Japanese flowering cherries (National Collection) and acers.
Yemen, what a country ... Haraz mountains, Socotra, Sana'a, Hadramaut, the empty quarter.... a country of stunning, mind altering beauty...and the friendliest of people.
