Snow cover? Well...partly, but not during the last cold swell. I'll be careful if the temps drop too much in the coming years..thanks for the warning!
(I sent you an email with the pics I have)

many nice plants, roland :)

last year i found  a couple of plants here on the farm of D trachycarpum--in fruit, i didn't see it in flower... i sowed a few, but not sure if i treated it correctly, so we will see if/when i get anything..i have not yet been able to relocate the plants to see if they are flowering(i know the place, but the plants are hard to find among a lot of other vegetation)--should be about now, so i have to go look again

yes, i'm east of the rockies, though not by much--half an hour drive west, the foothills biome starts, another half hour or so and the actual foothills start ..
you know, if i thought i would have so much trouble finding them, i would have marked the spot! i know the area, a particular patch in the forest--to within 10 or 20 metres in any direction, and i have a generally good eye for pattern, so i can usually find things--i went today again and went through the area very carefully and the only thing i could find in the area i am sure is Maianthemum--and i found that easily enough in two places!--i will check again in case the plant has not fully opened and resembles Maianthemum, though i find it hard to believe i could confuse it...
considering i was able to find Moehringia in this area today(tiny white flowers not much more than  a half cm across, with nearly invisible foliage, 10cm above the ground in mixed foliage!) it seems odd... i think i could not have been mistaken about the plant, since the berries are distinctive..i need to look for photos when i found it in fruit....

August is the easiest way to find
The orange berries are shouting
but for the flowers  They flower only a few weeks
They are easy to distinguishes from maianthemum
the branches are divided and maianthemum never
see pictures of maianthemum racemosum

very weird that i cannot find this plant :( i will show you pictures of the place, anyway, in a day or two when they are ready..l
we have tons of maianthemum here--racemosum in theory, but not right here--lots of stellatum, mostly in more open places, some in open forest, and canadense everywhere and trifolium in wet places...
by branches divided, you mean the vegetative stem is branched? i looked for pictures from when i picked the berries, but i can't find any...
(lots of Maianthemum pictures in my picasa albums below, more to come-stellatum pics not loaded yet, and canadense flowers are not open yet..)
