My renewal notice regularly arrives a couple of months before it is due.  I ignore it, and the reminder which is sent a bit later.  I then send my cheque off in good time to renew it before the 'best before date'.  I reckon the money is far better off earning me a farthing interest rather than the RHS which is obsessed with getting hold of your money.  In true Grumpy Old Man fashion I also tore them off a strip when they had the cheek to ask me to sell raffle tickets for them by sending me a begging email.  To their credit they have not used my email since for such affrontery.  I could go on...
