Galanthus in July 2020
« on: July 12, 2020, 11:41:34 AM »
Galanthus elwesii is our best performer here in Central Victoria.
This is a cluster of seedlings which have a variety of markings on their inner petals all derived from the same parent.
1) group shot
2) large green inner marking
3) medium green apical marking
4) medium green apical marking
5) 2 small markings

Isn't spring a wonderful time when everything starts fresh, and bulbs are coming up. :)
You have gotten nice plants from seeds, I liked the first G.elwesii with big green mark the most.
I'm not sure, but 'Magnet' doesn't look the same as mine, the pedicel in mine is longer. Actually your flower seems to have a bigger flower than mine. :) Experts can say more.  :)

Galanthus elwesii seedling with faint green outer marks
This is presumably the parent of the seedling with green tips but the inner marking is not as large, so it is definitely a seedling and not a stray bulb (it's over a metre away)

Thanks, Leena.
We are officially still in the middle of winter but snowdrops start early here!
I'm not convinced this snowdrop is 'Magnet' but it is distinct from the others in this bed which are mostly G. elwesii or hybrids.
The other possibility is 'S. Arnott' (which was also planted here) but it could also be a seedling
