Clematis ID please
« on: June 05, 2015, 04:34:37 PM »
Could anyone ID this Clematis, please?  I inherited it when I moved to my present garden.  While I would not have bought it I don't intend to get rid of it either. Both pics are of the same plant, the second taken at a later date.

Maureen,  it has a look of a cultivar called 'Blue Light'  - but I'm no expert on Clematis and Double forms can look similar.

It is probably something that has Clematis x jackmanii in the parentage. Clematis 'countess of lovelace' or somthing similar.

This is a useful site for Clematis species and cultivars.

Thank you Maggi and Alan - looking at the pics of the links you sent, it doesn't quite match either, but as Alan suggests, I guess it shares at least one common parent in C. x jackmanii.

Could be , Carolyn - 'Multi Blue' has the pointed petals that we see in Maureen's pic. Got a certain charm, doesn't it?

Carolyn - Multi Blue looks more like it.  I've just been outside to compare mine with the description on Maggi's link, and it seems to fit. Thank you.
