Lapageria
« on: January 04, 2011, 05:28:45 PM »
Hello everybody,
I haven't posted for some time but think I could recommend a small nursery in the UK. I bet many of you already know it but it might be of interest to some others. The nursery is run by Mike JEANS and has a website:
http://tomorrowsplants.com
Seeds and plants are listed ( not an extensive list )
I've ordered IXIA VIRIDIFLORA corms and LAPAGERIA seeds. Seeds were sent when mature ( August ) and I was much srprised to receive whole seedpods full of FRESH seeds ( about 50 seeds per pod!!!). This is by far the best offer on Lapageria I've ever come upon. Some seeds are now germinating...

But this new topic could also be the starting for discussions on LAPAGERIA?

I have some fresh Lapageria seeds available if anyone wants them. Only the result of a cross between two red forms I'm afraid.

Ton,

Your site is very useful. It certainly helps explain the confusion I had when viewing other reports, some of which reported getting seed with only a single clone, whilst others maintained that a second clone was needed for successful seed set. My own experience was that my first plant didn't set seed even with hand pollination. Obviously repeated attempts are necessary to overcome self-incompatibility factors - I'm plainly just not patient enough.

Hi,

I love this species. Its gorgeous flowers appear in late summer and autumn here in france. I've been growing this plant for several years but only have the " normal" form. It has withstood -5°C on my balcony ( with protection ). I also try to sow seeds but this appears more difficult as best results seem to depend on whether you can get fresh seeds. And I'm often prone to overwatering... I have a small seedling ( 2014 ) of the white form ( I do hope so... ). I know of Roseland House. they grow the UK national collection and have a lot of marvellous hybrids.
I'm sure many other forumists can discuss on this topic and post wonderful pictures.
