Information on Geranium cazorlense needed.
« on: January 09, 2013, 04:33:35 PM »
I received some Geranium cazorlense seeds from the AGS seed exchange a few weeks ago.
The seeds looked more like an erodium seed to me and there appears to be both a G. cazorlense and an E. cazorelense.
Am hoping someone can give me some information on either one or both of these plants.

Btw, have 3 germinated already, only took 3 days for first one. ;D

Helen, I edited your post to add "geranium" ....  ;)

You can see photos of both the Geranium and the Erodium here : http://www.mirandoplantas.com/2010/07/nombres-ingenuos-en-tiempo-presente.html     ..... how's your Spanish?  :D
With the aid of online help, I've attempted this :

for the Geranium : Caespitose and rhizomatous plant inhabiting protected areas of scree and rocky summits of some mountains of Cazorla sharing habitat with other endemics. In Critically Endangered list  in the regional and national Red Lists.

and the Erodium
Herb  sitting on a woody  base which is characterized by having these two upper petals slightly larger and red dyed. Dolomitic limestone stony-high mountain. Not only a Cazorla endemic  but also appears in other nearby mountains Béticas of "Oróspeda": northeast jienense as the Sierras de Segura, north of Granada and Sierra de Alcaraz in Albacete. Vulnerable

Maggi, thanks for the links but I had already been there and noted the 'endangered' information.
Am wondering if anyone grows either plant in their garden.
My Spanish is only as good as google translator btw  ::) ::) ::)

Thought it might be off interest for those not knowing the plants to see the pix.....

I suppose they were garden seeds to the AGS exchange so must be growable  ;) .... but where!

You could post a query in the AGS  site, Helen.

Here's my answer.
The seeds were E. cazorlense.
As far as I can tell it looks pretty much like the E. cazorlense in Maggi's link.
Sorry I can't get a better pic of flowers.
