Watching Ebay

WOW, I've been watching a couple of interesting drops on ebay, 'Ecusson d'Or' went for £118 and 'Alburgh Claw' just shot from £133 to £337 in the last 10 seconds.

Can anyone tell me, on Joes stall, are the 'drops placed in alphabetical order.  I want to know how to find my hearts desire fast

 As far as I know the only people that put their drops in alphabetical order are Woodchippings,most of the others mix them up so that everyone has the same chance to find them


And I would not pay tooooo much attention to e bay prices ,you will find them much cheaper at a snowdrop event,I presume you are going to the CGS day on saturday

Yet another edit...................,Wol Staines from Glen Chantry normally hands out a list of drops that he is selling ,so at least you will know if he has what you are looking for

From what I understand the BBC are going to be there to film the rush to the tables,most unusual really as normally the CGS is a very relaxed affair....................not so this year apparently

I hope I am wrong for all those attending, but I understand the sales tables are in a corridor this year at the CGS event, between two rooms, it could be a real crush.  There will be no early sales, so the queue could be large.... Ignore me, I'm just a Grumpy Old Man because I can't be there

If anyone knows the guy in charge of the Myddleton House garden, maybe they could have a quiet word with him to abandon his annual practice of "winding up" the queue every minute before opening time, finishing by shouting out 10, 9, 8.... These things can be stressful enough without that sort of hoopla.

Joe doesn't have an order to his stands, it normally gets put out randomly, you just have to hunt for the ones you want. They are so busy serving for them to hunt them out for you, it's down to you. They will though, tell you if it's there somewhere and be as helpful as poss. By the time ypu've set it all up you get a pretty good memory for what's on it.
His orders are also not alphabetical, he has a very personalised system for those, as Steve will vouch when I tried sorting his out at the Gala this year

I find it strange that 'Madelaine', a fine yellow drop but reasonably easy to obtain, has achieved £49 on EBay.  A difficult to obtain and unique in Galanthus reginae-olgae, 'Fotoini' is only £83.01.

I think that when people start out down the slippery slope of Mania Galanthus, there's very few places they can access plants without 'insider' knowledge. It wasn't until I got to the Gala that I began making great contacts and friends, finding out about quietly known nurseries/men/women. I only knew about a few local gardens opening under the NGS for buying from, if I was lucky. In the begining gardeners were quite protective of their contacts.

That is why this Forum is so good.  We are all prepared to tell of good sources for snowdrops and to inform on those to be avoided.
