***
Any publication is out of date at the moment of publication and new names and synonyms have been already added to the database used and many more are to be expected this year. And errors in this publication will be, of course, corrected in the next, 2014 updated version too.

And for this next, 2014 updated version we need any comments, new names, etc, etc. All is very welcome indeed.

Thank you.

Wim

± 2000 cultivar names (including synonyms)

'±' does not seem to be the right symbol. '≈' or '~' conventionally denote 'approximately' whereas ± denotes the degree of uncertainty in a quoted figure.  So '2000 ± 100 cultivar names' would indicate a number of cultvar names somewhere between 1900 and 2100.

Still, approximately 2000 names is going some.
Almost in Scotland.

okay, approximately 2000 cultivar names (including synonyms). I think Johan said 2016.

Any way, Hanneke collected copies at the KAVB and I have not seen it yet. Sorry.

Best wishes,

Wim

OK Wim, but I was wondering what actually constituted each entry?

Name, Cultivar Group, Published Source Reference
as a minimum of information.
Almost in Scotland.

I would also be interested in knowing what was included in an entry.  Sounds intriguing and like a lot of hard work.  I thought there were approximately 1,000---2,000 is hard to fathom.  Congratulations.

I had the opportunity to leaf through this booklet at the Gala and found myself disappointed.  It really was just a list of names and I looked up a random name, 'Green Light', only to find it had not been included (although it has been on Joe Sharman's list since 2008 and there were some on sale about two metres away).

It seems to me that this list is crying-out to be published as an e-book so the full data could be included, with the all-important references to the original publications from which the names had been taken.  But this list is stuck firmly in the last century.
Almost in Scotland.

As promised a page from the "name list".

We sold quite a few copies at the Galanthus Gala, so that was nice, but better yet were some direct comments as "that list will help me with my records and collection". One of the reasons the "name list" was published so very please with those comments.

I was able to collect another 20 cultivar names not listed yet. If you have cultivar names not listed, please let me know. Thank you.

Best wishes,

Wim

If you have cultivar names not listed, please let me know.

How about Galanthus nivalis 'Green Hornet' http://www.nationaltrustimages.org.uk/image/189879

But Wim, the more I think about, the more I would prefer to have your database including the references (and in electronic format that could be searched).  For anyone with a computer that seems so much the better option than a printed list.  I urge you to consider selling an electronic version.

Dear Alan,

Thanks for your reference to Galanthus 'Green Hornet', that was not in the records yet and now it is.

But with your other cultivar name you show "us" one of the other reason why we published the name list; avoiding confusion and synonyms. Your Galanthus 'Green Light' is now a synonym of Galanthus 'Greenlight', the name 'Greenlight' is listed on page 19.

When Hanneke and I discussed the Galanthus name list with Saskia & Johan, the taxonomists of the Royal Bulbgrower's Association, we also considered to publish the complete database. This complete database has 2629 records with 60 columns. Any way, we could not decide what to do but this possibility is still not a passed project.

Best wishes,

Wim
