Couldn't agree more Dave, couldn't think of a better member of the Heavenly Choir.

They don't make singers like that anymore.  I wondered once if Amy Winehouse might have matured to a similar talent, but now we'll never know.

You just can't beat the American songbook, yet another hit from Mack Gordon (born Morris Gittler -Polish) and Harry Warren (who incidentally was born Salvatore Antonio Guaragna -Italian).

Yemen, what a country ... Haraz mountains, Socotra, Sana'a, Hadramaut, the empty quarter.... a country of stunning, mind altering beauty...and the friendliest of people.

In my view you can't beat the American songbook: Berlin, Porter, Green, Adair, Dennis, Gordon, Arlen, van Heusen, Warren, Gershwin, Rodgers, Hart, the great Sammy Cahn, Styne etc etc. Yup they don't make them like that these days......

For the Etta James fans there is an 1985 Vicki Gabereau interview with Etta James, may be of interest.

Thanks, John. At least she achieved mass recognition with "At Last". There is a number of performances in YouTube.
