Hippeastrum, but which one?
« on: November 17, 2010, 04:53:39 AM »
Against my better judgement, I bought a few bulbs from a Thai supplier labelled as being "Hippeastrum grandiflora equestre", which I know is wrong and the pic supplied doesn't help either:

The blooms are described as being salmon-orange-pink, with green throat, measuring 3.5 inches on an 18 inch scape.  I'm not aware of an equestre/puniceum with this colouration and the flowers appear to be markedly similar to those listed on Paul Christian's site under Hippeastrum roseum.  TBH I was hoping it may be that when I bought it so if anyone can throw any light on this, I'd be very grateful.

Most interesting, it is a salmon form of Hippeastrum puniceum (equestre)
Alberto Castillo, in south America, near buenos Aires, Argentina.
