Why are hybrids of some plants acceptable and others frowned upon.?

Different people value plants for different reasons, and I think that's why gardening has such a wide appeal, and generates such heated arguments.
I don't feel it is appropriate to try and label one form gardening as being 'superior' to another, but to accept the rich diversity with pleasure.

Absolutely. I loathe petunias but have no problem with others loving them.
