Helianthus x kellermanii
« on: October 30, 2010, 05:09:04 PM »
I have seeds of Helianthus x kellermanii if anyone wants to try this stunning clump forming, chocolate scented 3m+ sunflower. The flowers erupt from the top of the stems like a yellow firework

That's a GIANT! :o

How do you know the flowers are scented, looks like you'd have to hang off the eaves of your house to catch a wiff ;D

The wall is about 5 feet 1.5m.

High wind a couple of months back knocked the stems over allowing me to smell the flowers when they opened

Holy dooley, Mark, that is one massive Helianthus!!  Is it perennial, or does it grow from seed to that in a single year?  It's amazing! :o
Cheers.

Yes it's a perennial. I bought mine years ago as a flowering sized plant so dont know how long it will take.

Your message reminds me I havent sent out seeds. Would you like some? For such a large plant they are small

Mark,

Thank you for the offer, but there is nowhere I could fit it I think.  :o  How tall does it actually get to?
Cheers.

In a good year 10-12 feet / 3m-ish. This year it could only manage about 6 after being blown down

Fascinating, Mark.  Definitely too big for my little garden though (says he who is growing tree dahlias, which make it well taller than that! ::))
Cheers.

Sorry people I never sent out the seeds. If you would like seeds please pm me again. I cleared out my inbox recently

Does anyone in UK/Ireland want a tuber? They look like skinny Dahlia tubers.
