forum closing windows
« on: March 30, 2009, 06:31:00 PM »
This year I have been having problems with the SRGC forum closing windows I already have open. I tend to have multiple windows open at any one time usually a mixture of various threads and surfing. I might have 5 open or just one. I have emails coming to my computer for everything I'm watching. I click on view reply at ..... It's from this point that either a new window opens or they all close.

Anyone else getting this? It happens on my laptop also

No problem here, Mark. Maybe you just have too much 'stuff' going on at the same time.

Try Opera? This morning I had 34 windows open for work from yesterday, and I then opened all 47 "unread posts" before reading them (well, looking at them, not enough time to really read ...  :( >:( ).

Could it be anything to do with available memory Mark?

Solution depends on your browser and OS

If you're running Internet Exploder under Windows (any version), that's very likely the problem. A lot of MS software behaves badly under heavy loads.

If you haven't already done so, install Firefox and Opera and give both of them a trial. Or even take the plunge, install Linux, and leave MS behind forever. I started using Ubuntu Linux in summer 2007 and now rarely use my Windows machines at all. It has its moments, but if you get into trouble there are endless online resources to help you resolve your difficulties.

Someone else suggested you may not have enough memory in your computer. RAM is cheap, so if there's room for adding some, do so; there's nothing like lots of memory to make a computer run better.

I have plenty of RAM. This can happen with only one window open
