unknown plant
« on: May 28, 2015, 10:49:48 AM »
A friend has asked me to identify this plant, my first thought was a mossy sax, but she says the cushion is firm, "almost prickly".  Any ideas??

Hi Diane,  I am no expert but it looks like a plant I grow called Azorella Trifurcata 'Nana'. Dave

Yes, I'm sure that's right, the name was somewhere in the dark recesses of my brain.  Thanks very much!

Dear Diane,
Considering that there are at least 5000 plant names in your brain, I'm surprised you can even remember your own name most days - it is quite a relief to find you are as capable as the rest of us of forgetting one!  ;)  ;D

We grow the Azorella quite commonly but I've not met this 'Dave.' Is it a recognized dwarf form? The large version can grow to metres across.

We have this growing over a short wall and, though it doesn't flower quite this well in the shaded part, it is excellent ground cover.

I know a few "Daves" who have grown to several metres across, too! :-X ::) ;D
