THANK YOU MAGGIE :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
-
I hope that helps my friend :) i shall have to let you know later .
-
I have got to know a few of the "regulars"on Hanneke's tours and they are very nice and friendly and happy to speak to me in English (if they know the language). The only problem I can foresee is if the tour is over-subscribed.
-
Well , they have made contact and at the moment there is a doubt as to whether the tour will ago ahead or not as there has not been the interest :-\
So if it goes ahead they are going to go on the tour , which im sure Marge will love . If not they are getting a hire car . :)
Either way Marge will get to see a lot of Snowdrops .
-
They have also tried to contact Joe Sharman , they left a message with him , his answer phone still has last years gala info on it , that confused them .
-
I had a email today from Americans who want to visit the Gala. What a coincidence
-
thats them ;D my friend Marge and her husband Robert ;D

Emma - I know that Iris Ney often arranges a coach trip from the continent too - it might be worth contacting her too if your friends don't mind the starting country?
I have now found details of the "2012" offering on the Monksilver website - the 2013 details are not up yet:
Iris Ney is organizing a coach trip to the English Galanthus Gala and many other English snowdrop gardens from the 8th to 15th of February. Es wird eine Busreise zur Galanthus Gala organisiert. Fuer weitere Informationen kontaktieren Sie bitte Frau Iris Ney. Tel (0049) 176 966 09769. Email: gartengestaltung@iris-ney.de
Address: Am Heidegarten 28, 53773, Hennef, Germany .
Otherwise I have Iris's personal email address that I can give to you if the 2012 details do not help.

Greetings from the Colonies--I'm the culprit who is making the noise about a Galanthus tour. I'm new at this posting business, so if I say or do anything stupid, please feel free to correct me. Marge and I are not wedded to a coach tour but we are certainly interested. However, we are very keen on a Galanthus Gala. We have the impression that there will be one in Beccles on 09FEB2013 but information on this event is apparently not extant. We will be in the Mother Land from 07FEB2013 until 13FEB2013 and would be grateful for any Galanthus orientated suggestions--a PROPER snowdrop luncheon would not be amiss! BTW, according to the Fibonacci sequence (yes, I'm a retired maths professor), Marge has over 1,000,000 snowdrops in our 1.5 acre woods.
-
Hi Robert! I hadn't put 2 and 2 together to discover that you were the Robert of Marge and Robert - what a gaffe to make about a maths professor ::) :-[ :D
For anyone else interested about the Hanneke bus tour
phone Travel Britain on (0031) 102 281100
See Robert's update on this matter, on Reply 15 on the next page of this thread

Actually, if you go back to the original publication (Rees, A. "Snowdrops" New Plantsman 6, pages 6-8, 1999) you will see that Rees has no evidence to support his conjecture of a Fibonacci sequence; it's just the mathematical consequence of a particular model for bulb rate of growth and maturation. It's an area crying out for a better mathematical treatment that someone with the necessary skills (like a retired maths professor) might accomplish.

Here is an update. Travel Britain is no more. The new company is Garden Tours. The telephone number for Travel Britain is not correct for Garden Tours, and the number for the latter is +31 880 071 300 (N. B., in UK + = 00). The "go to" guy at Garden Tours is Ger Kleingeld MD. His email address is Ger@gardentours.nl and he will respond to Gary if you speak to him in English. The web site is http://www.gardentours.nl (http://www.gardentours.nl). However it is circa 2012 and the 2013 edition is a work in progress. Also, the web site is in Dutch, but if you view the page using the Google Chrome browser, the page can be translated into English. Pardon me if this is more than you wanted to know!

Very useful update, Robert, thank you!

You are not the only one!

Dear Alan_b--thanks for the elucidation. I will check out the article in the New Plantsman when I go to the Miami University library on Monday. My wife, Marge, has been collecting snowdrops for 25 years and has a nice cultivar collection. Over the past 12 years she has kept records on her snowdrop transplantings. Through her systematic experimentation she has observed that her G. nivalis are increasing at an even greater rate than the Fibonacci sequence. Her snowdrops are planted in woodsy soil over limestone rock and she transplants 3,000 bulbs per year.

Thank you every one for helping out Marge and Robert :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* You all make me feel warm and fuzzy inside ;D
