Title: Salvia for identification
Post by: arillady on November 25, 2012, 05:55:53 AM
A friend from the north island of NZ has this question to ask:

"Would any one have a clue as to the name of this Salvia, please. I can't seem to find it on the internet. The plant/s have just been found in a wild area on our property. No garden rubbish has been thrown over this bank for 32 years at least, so it has not come from me! It has colonised and it's probably only because a new fence has been put at the top of the bank that I have now seen it in bloom. The flower spire is about 25 cm tall with about 20 little blooms on each and the little blooms are 7mm, so tiny. I thought the white markings are distinctive and might give a clue."

I don't know about it being a Salvia... looks like a Stachys, hedge nettle.

Edit:  Perhaps Stachys sylvatica:

LORI THANK YOU SO MUCH. :o :) I knew someone would know what it was in an instant.
Joanne will be pleased - I wonder if she will join this happy crew too now.
