I think it would be great if we could all see what various companies sell as John Innes
Homebase JI2 below

What is in it?Obviously some sand/grit,some humus.Don't see much loam.

Green Ore JI No 2 and secondly a sample of J Arthur Bowers JI No 2 that was full of lumps of wood. I complained about the lack of quality and they replied saying they had had plant problems whilst manufacturing the batch my sample came form, I also got a refund+.

From my experience, that's a standard batch of J Arthur Bowers :(

My experience too Anne. Though I have found a bag which was almost the opposite extreme - grey slimy clay with a bit of sand in!

I don't buy John Innes any more. For seed compost I use a good quality peat free multipurpose compost with added sand and grit. I make my own for everything else.
