I nearly missed it. Here are views of my favourite roundabout, a very busy place where great caution is required to reach it while cars are buzzing here there and everywhere. Well worth it though and I am happy to report that the population of Anacamptis pyramidalis has increased very nicely from last year's count. I wonder if it might have something to do with my impassioned plea to the guardians to change their mowing regime. Or maybe it was just the weather.....

How lovely: that must be one of the most beautiful roundabouts in Britain.
Well done Maren, for recording it and your efforts in prottecting it. 8)

there does seem to be an increase of orchids this year, maybe the weather has helped them

Thanks, Maggi - I did make some fair and frank comments on the management of the roundabout a couple of years back when they mowed it while the orchids were still in flower!!!
Mind you, they may just have run out of money for mowing. I expect my representations fell on stony ground, just like the orchid seed, of which I asked to collect one pod and was not allowed to (grudge, grudge.. >:( >:(.).
Neil, I too have noticed increases elsewhere. Maybe you're right. :) :) :)

Maren would you like a pod?super roundabout and a white one to boot incredible.

all roundabouts should be left for nature

Maren,
they probably thought it was a patch of very vigorous red clover!
What a delightful sight, thanks for risking your life to get us these pics!
cheers

Thanks, Fermi,
the thing is, you can't see them from the road, even when driving round as slowly as the traffic will allow, and it has a lot of red clover on the eastern side, the pyramidal orchids are mostly on the western side and some can be found under the margins of the trees. :)
