Title: Alpine plants (from Greece)
Post by: vangelis on July 05, 2012, 04:14:15 PM
Hallo from Greece! My name is Skoufakis Vangelis, I have studied Agriculture, I'm an amateur gardener, unfortunately I can't grow alpine plants in Athens ;D , but I often go to the mountains and admire some of the flora of Greece.
Here are some plants from Olympus mt.
Is this Viola striis-notata?

Hello,

you are right with the Viola.

The last photo is perhaps a ranunculus.

I would like to see more pictures from mt. Olympus!

Is Viola striis-notata endemic only in Olympus mt.?

In which section could I post plants from the wild?

I believe that Viola striis-notata is endemic to Mt Olympus. I cannot say if your photo is of that viola.... others here will be able to know more than I.

You are welcome to post Greek wildflowers in this section:

 or, as Gerd suggests :  http://www.srgc.net/forum/index.php?board=31.0 (http://www.srgc.net/forum/index.php?board=31.0)  :)

Hi Vangelis,
Lovely pics - especially the violet. The second photo might be a Ranunculus species.

The violet is endemic at Mt. Olympus.

If you'll post more pics from your region (very desirable)  I believe ' Travel/Places to visit ' is the section for that.

Gerd

Gerd, you are correct, that section is perhaps the correct one : http://www.srgc.net/forum/index.php?board=31.0 (http://www.srgc.net/forum/index.php?board=31.0)       :-*

 So, Vangelis' viola IS  V. striis-notata ?

Yes, it is - there is no other pansy which is so minute at Mt. Olympus!

A friend told me about the Viola, he is based at Arne Strid's book, Wild Flowers of Mount Olympus
