Hope yours is better ::)
-
Not much different here, David...... in fact, it's even worse......... :-X
-
Just nipped outside to see what the thermometer in our sheltered back garden says ..... it is barely 10 degrees C.... there is a constant fine rain..... summer it is not!
-
Just been down to post office in the village and the car thermometer is showing 13. The river is as high as I've ever seen it in July. I can't even get Maureen to think about moving back to Yorkshire never mind somewhere warm and dry (Madeira would suit me! ;D )
-
Roll on winter ::), at least we get some blue skies.
Angie :)
-
We're getting what Maggi's getting! :(
-
Now Maggi's comment on the Southern hemisphere Thread makes perfect sense!
cheers

There's often a clue.........

We're getting what Maggi's getting! :(
Anthony don't you complain you have had a nice summer, you have had blue skies and sun I seen it in your pictures ;)
Angie :)
ps No sun again. If I win the lottery tomorrow I am off.
-
Now this is summer! ;) ;D
-
I would willingly settle for that, it hasn't stopped raining all day today.
-
Is that normal for your winter Rogan?
-
Now this is summer! ;) ;D
Apparently we had the worst summer on record here! Autumn wasn't bad, but we need some sun now!
-
For those of you who are yearning for summer, try this unbearable heat and see if you still need it. We just had 5 days with temps over 100 Fahrenheit and this is what's in store for the next 5.
Happy 4th July Folks!!!!!
-
Looks cooler in Celsius. 8)
-
Your chance of rain is the same as mine, but it is raining here :'(

What you need Alan is a cool pint of Timothy Taylors ;D
-
Alan,
looking at your weather, I rather stay with mine. One can always put on another layer and my central heating makes less noise than air conditioning.
I'll put on my coat and hat and go out to breathe the air. It's so nice and fresh after rain. :) :) :)

Could we not just split our temperatures.
I would die in that heat, well maybe I need to take that back. I might get used to in if I stayed there, just would have to get rid of my insulation before I move.
My friend said that her mum that lives in Oklahoma has been having it really hot and they have had a bad storm and all her appliances have now to be replaced, she said they took a big power surge. We are all getting drowned here and you are all cooking over there, not really fair is it.
Everytime the weather comes on TV I look away. I don't want to get depressed anymore.
Going down to Tatton Park flower show soon and I hope the weather will be better down their.
David next year don't put that shading on, good job you are at the other end of the country or I would be down there washing it off ;D
Angie :)
-
Believe me Angie, you wouldn't. Even Sherba can't stand this heat and she can work in the garden when it reaches 90, but we had 109 degrees one day last week and it is savage. Plants are dying, water is in short supply and we can't even let our cats outside.
Last year we had our wettest year on record in Kentucky and this year looks as though it could be one of the driest.
But I guess the weather will always be as controversial as politics over here. Neither of them do much for the population!!!
-

Never a true word said :).
I think you are right, if and when we get it warm its hard to keep gardening. Just back from feeding my fish in the polytunnel and all the plants are hanging on the ground with all the rain and mist. Even the robin was sitting in my greenhouse keeping dry.

The other day we got up to 40ºC and it was 28ºC at 11 in the evening (= still evening because nobody would dream of having already gone to bed at that time!!), but the last few days have been very dreary. And this is the forecast:
-
We got quite a surprise today. Thunder in Ayr at lunch time so we headed up the coast about 50 miles, When we arrived at the Cloch lighthouse opposite Dunoon, the temp. was 25c. and sunny. This after weeks of rain and temps. about 16c. A very pleasant afternoon watching porpoises playing about in a mirror calm sea.
This evening, in a fit of enthusiasm, I decided to cut the grass and trim a hedge. Of course, that brought on the rain again. The drive is covered in clippings so I will have to clear them in order to get the wheelie bin round. I suggested to my dear wife that she may like to help. The reply was " you did it, you clear it up". The division of labour is absolute.!
-
I've just had to put in a request to my husband to put in some stepping stones so I can get across the lovely new moat around my potting shed. I'm fed up of it overtopping my welly-shoes.
-
Pity you are not a member of parliament, Anne - you could have applied for payment to have it done. ::)
Are you sure you want stepping stones? A drawbridge is attractive......
-
A month's rain in two days!!!! Well it's started...the quaint babbling brook thorugh our garden is a brown raging torrent full of debris, the water has taken over the lower patio and the bottom foot of the rockery now (in 17 years it has only made it onto the patio once and then only just). Level still rising. I can't even go and hide in the greenhouse as that entails crossing the brook and the water is now only an inch below the bridge >:( ???
-
Sounds bad, Martin - will the house be safe from the water?
-
Maggi, we'll be OK, still 5 feet below the house. Lower down the village is a mess though with, until half an hour ago, only one road open and a number of houses are flooded. At the moment the level has dropped a couple of feet but if the rain gets heavy again it'll come straight back up :(
Attached shows our poor village shop

-
Martin thats some amount of rain. What a shame for all the folks that have had water damage, I suppose its just not water damage it's the mess the mud leaves. Hope its stopped raining with you.
Angie :)
-
Angie, you are so right, it is the muck that causes many of the problems long term although water on its own will ruin wooden flooring and carpets. Water level has now dropped several feet.
The village made the BBC 10 o'clock national news last night so,,,,,,,,should I be charging tabloid fees to talk about this now ::) ::)
-
The rain is so local that it is almost impossible to know where it will fall. In Ayr, we have had some, but no heavier than normal. Although it was dry here yesterday, 12 miles inland the main road to Kilmarnock was cut as a culvert under the road collapsed due to the amount of water passing through. The main dual carriageway to Glasgow was blocked N. of Kilmarnock due to flooding. Some diversions were about 30 miles. As someone who is out in the car daily, mainly in remoter parts of the countryside, I really have to think seriously about where I am going.
One "benefit" of the rain is the removal of dust from the atmosphere, although this can be replaced by water vapour. About 9pm last night, the visibility was at least 60 miles. I took this picture of the Isle of Jura from the beach at Irvine with the Calmac ferry, in the foreground, on it's last run to Arran.
Jura is 58 miles in a straight line from the spot where I took the picture. If I wanted to go there, it would take a day's travel by road, plus two ferry trips.

Fabulous photo, Tom!
-
I've had enough, over three weeks now since I did anything meaningful outside. Lawn looks like a hay meadow; not a single job from my list of summertime jobs started never mind finished and the only re-potting I've done has been Cyclamen.
-
Beautiful, Tom!
Although rain has poured down elsewhere, we have had rather nice weather here at our summerhouse. Just enough rain to keep the vegetation lush and green. Not much wind either.
Here are some pictures my daughter took the other day - the last ones at 10PM.
-
We're in the midst of a heat wave here - 27c today and maybe 28 tomorrow, thankfully is is cooling off to the low teens at night. Extremely dry here and the forest fire hazard is extreme. But what on earth is going on with the plants here? Snowdrop seeds sprouting. Lachenalias coming up and they are bone-dry. ???
johnw - +19c at 10:10. Brilliant sunshine.

In the Bible it says that it rained for forty days and forty nights and they called it a disaster, In IRELAND we call it SUMMER ;D ;D ;D
-
;D ;D ;D
-
Well it's raining for the first time in weeks here, and yes, it's St Swithin's Day! ::)
-
Just to illustrate quite how bad the summer has been here, this is a pot of confused hyacinths photographed today!
-
two sunsets from N Ireland in the last week
-
It is too hot, where are the clouds!

Get yourself up here - we have plenty - and there is rain coming out of them.......
-
No thanks Maggi seen enough of that these last 3 months, makes up for the whole of the winter with it being very dry. Mind you if it carries on like this the water company will be putting the hosepipe ban back on. It now 6 days with no rain and counting.
-
18oC and rain here yesterday!
-
Yesterday was actually like summer - no jacket required. In the evening we went to the Maidens, next to Turnberry golf course and had a walk along the harbour.
A beautiful soft summer's evening. The place was full of middle aged men in casual gear walking up and down in groups. I suddenly realised they were the competitors for the Senior golf tournament being held this weekend.
We came back via Dunure, a small fishing village south of Ayr, to look at the sunset over Arran. It was still warm enough to sit outside in shirt sleeves.
The picture was taken at 10pm - and then the midges decided to come out, so it was off home sharpish.
-
Well, that was Summer. Black sky, pouring down and 14C this morning here. The weather guys say that the Jet Stream has moved back South of us and we can expect unsettled (lousy!) weather for the remainder of August but may get a dry spell in September.

Something to look forward to then. We will probably get a couple of sunny days in September. Only one good thing was I had to move some big shrubs and with this weather they have all made the move well and I only have had to water them twice.
David I will be watching you next year, no shading please. If you do I will jump in my car and come and wash it of myself ;) :-*
Angie :)

You may say that Ron, but I couldn't possibly comment? ;D
Our local weather guy says more rain for us but warmer.

Warmer rain! Excellent news, I can take my morning shower outdoors and save a penny ;D ;D

Fantastic electrical storm here last night. Today it is roasting hot and I'm about to cut the grass again! 8)

A glorious morning here today, and the balloon festival is on at Billing Aquadrome, saw about 20 balloons up this morning on my way home from work, also rather chuffed that I will be able to try out my old Suffolk Punch motor mower today, freshly re furbished for me by my sons,as part of my Birthday pressie ;D
-
I gave up on the back grass as the wheels of the mower just sank into pure mud! :(

I just managed to get in in the last few minutes, Chas.
Obviously does good work. I love the idea of those cute old cars getting a new lease of life :D
-
fabulous weather we are having this August. The heat was unbareable today 25C
-
Washed the shading off my greenhouse on Friday. Temperature got up to 25 C today (outside). Must have worked, but it was a bit too warm for me to do much in the garden. We had an overnight low of 2 C one night last week. Very changeable.

Summer is here at long last Roma.
I started checking all my S/A bulbs today, it was too warm to work in the garden or the greenhouse so just cleaned and checked the pots outwith the greenhouse.
Angie :)
-
I always have to laugh when people talk about 25'C being unbearable. ;D ;D Such a different climate here. ;)
-
I'm now regarding 15oC, which is what it is here just now, as cold! ::)
-
Yep it's amazing what you can get used to Anthony.
Even when the temperatures are warm we get a nice breeze from the sea. I can't imagine gardening in really warm temperatures let alone all the watering you would have to do. That must be really hard work in really hot climates. My friend In Tulsa, America has been having record temperatures all year and her grass is brown and the leaves on the trees are falling. I wonder where in the world we would get temperatures that are nice and comfortable and gardening would be perfect.
Paul don't laugh thats the warmest day of the year so far for Aberdeen. The weather this summer has been a wash out like the locals would say. Its hard to think that the year started with a hosepipe ban down south and its been the wettest year for a hundred years.
Roll on next summer, if we get one ::)
Angie :)
ps away out to do some gardening under blue skies :)
