Title: Which Allium?
Post by: Stephenb on October 26, 2007, 11:24:02 AM
Can anyone help me with an ID for this Allium? The picture was taken in Edinburgh Botanics in June this year and it was marked Allium cyaneum.....

Looks a lot like Allium Karataviense to me...
Any picture of the leaves? (those of A. karataviense (http://www.plantfacts.com/Family/Alliaceae/images/Allium.karataviense.1.jpg) are usually one pair of very wide, waxy thick leaves)

Could be 'Ivory Queen' (A. karataviense) but would be unusually tall. The flowers usually sit nearly on top of the leaves, which are, as has been indicated, wide and near the ground.

Allium nigrum perhaps?
