I have received this question about an Armenian Gentian, plus this photo ( click to enlarge the image)
[attachthumb=1]
"Hello,
I am hobby botanist in Germany. Last Summer I spend two weeks in Armenia
and I have taken pictures of some plants in the mountain area
around lake Sevan. However, I did not find *any* book describing flowers
in this area (something like "Flowers in the Caucasus"). Can you help
me? I have attached a picture of a Gentiana whose species I do not know.
best regards
Dr.Christian Grosche
Hamburg Germany"
I hope we are able to help Christian identify this species and perhaps suggest a good flora of the area for future use.

I certainly can't help but I do like the gentian, very sturdy with a good arrangement and colour of both flowers and foliage. I hope it can be identified.

I have found this reference to aflora which may be of some help... all we need now is to find the book!
Flora Kavkaza [Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Russia], see Tamamshyan (1967)
Found the info here: http://gentian.rutgers.edu/flora.htm

I spend few days around Lake Sevan few weeks ago and found lots of Gentiana seeds. Maybe I have the seeds from the species and with plants I think someone can tell the species. Do you know which side of the lake the photo was taken? I have been around in al mountains around the lake...
