In year 2010 I have bought in a german nursery for Cacti a pot with some Zephyranthes bulbs ...now I have a first flower and I'm really surprised ....I think this is a new species !
Any ideas or suggestions ?
The plants was grown from seeds collected in Bolivia

Hans you must be getting some nice sun with you before you have such lovely flowers. My flowers are all hanging their heads down with all this miserable weather that we have been getting here in Aberdeen. They are all sad like me.
Angie :)

While it is 6 weeks old, I still need to comment on that first Zeph that Hans showed us. Amazing colour combination. At first look it is almost more like a Romulea (although I realise it is not that). Very nice markings!! Thanks for showing us these, and for others who have posted in this topic. :D
-
Paul ,
I had the same feeling like you when I saw the first flower ...I was thinking it is a Romulea :o

Wow, Hugo. Striking. As striking (but oh so different) as Hans' one that started this topic. What species is it? I'm guessing if it is a species it will have a name that represents Red. ;D It's a beauty.
-
The first is Zephyranthes cardinalis, the second maybe a hybrid.
-
The second looks like the red form of Z. katherinae.
If the first is the true H. cardinalis, the flower is quite small, as compared to other Zz. in cultivation.

Roland ,
I have sent before many years pictures of this plants also to PBS -they wrote :
"Zephyranthes sp. Photos by Hans Joschko of plants obtained from a friend that originally were collected in the northern provinces of Argentina, in the border region between Salta and Tucuman at 1100 meters. Germán Roitman thinks it is Z. mesochloa, but Alberto Castillo thinks it may be a new species because Z. mesochloa is a lowland plant."
Here are some old pictures ( made from slides and made with a scanner )
