A thread to show how we are managing our Planet:

Rafa, thank you for this link to a remarkable piece of film.
As if man's inhumanity to man was not enough, we do these terrible things to innocent creatures from other species also. What hope is there for us, I wonder.

It would take a philosopher to answer a question like this - and a philosopher is a very sad person indeed. A single film like this and a few comments are just observations and not potential remedies. We live with the situation we are in and quite a lot of what mankind does is extremely impressive, and there are very many who consider such problems - that way there is optimism. Like Ron says it is disingenuous to stand outside the problems, but terribly hard to take them on.

If there is this amount of plastic ingested by albatrosses in the middle of nowhere, the rest of the planet must be worse? :(

I think ocean currents concentrate plastic refuse like this in specific places, so you can't necessarily extrapolate from one place to the general. We would certainly know if the rest of the planet was as bad as this! It would be interesting to hear if there are steps being taken to reduce this specific problem. Very difficult I would think.

How sad that the caring act of feeding the young is killing them. And sad that it is stuff casually thrown away by UNcaring people that is responsible.

it is incredible....
In my village they are specially filthy, they love to put debris in every single country road. This week I planted several Junglans regia, and Fraxinus excelsior in the roads arround the village and the margins had a debris layer covered by the grass. Is it logic? they didn't even do this to repair the road, they only did this to get rid of it. It seems they prefer a debris sight than a linear Junglans forest in a road. They are many little acts that finally all thogether finish in things like this trash island.
