Title: Dactylorhiza incarnata
Post by: mark smyth on May 27, 2012, 10:35:54 PM
This plant was identified in the forum as D. incarnata. It appeared in one of my troughs several years ago. There are now plants appearing in the garden that look very similar. Can I assume they are self sown and coming true?

The first two photos show the parent plant and the third one of the seedlings. I'll take more photos tomorrow

I've always admired the quality of Marks photography Maren.

My Sony camera just doesn't render blues & purples accurately, so what seems spectacular & worth posting on here just doesn't cut it when uploaded.

Davey, yes it does except this orchid arrived by itself. It appeared in one of my crevice troughs. Dactylorhiza praetermissa isnt found over here

These are beautiful plants. I never grew them. Do they need more boggy conditions?

Something came to mind the other day. Some of us bought from or swapped with Sam Edwards who ripped us off. I looked up some of the photos of plants he supplied to me as Eskimo Nell and it's the same plant. They all had black death so were binned. I must have put a small tuber in the trough. The other must have come from seeds from Sam's plants.

Someone else has told me these plants are D. praetermissa.

Sam Edwards  >:( and I am still feeling the repercussions of that, I think I may stop growing them for a few years and see if that  works.
