Title: Glasgow Botanic Garden 11th May
Post by: shelagh on May 23, 2012, 04:00:49 AM
On the same coach holiday we had the opportunity to visit Glasgow Botanic.  Having seen this in October courtesy of a SRGC Discussion Weekend trip we thought we'd have another look.

It is by far the poor relation although it has the Kibble Palace a wonderful Victorian glasshouse and a superb orchid collection we were very dissapointed by the lack of outside colour.  Also it was absolutely pouring down for the whole time (another 2 hours) so I looked at the succulents which I would normally have given a miss.

The only 'alpine' plants are in the entrance to the orchid house so I'll start with those, then on to the Kibble Palace.

Not quite sure what happened to the pictures then so I will try again.

A lot of the plants were labelled but occasionally they had either crept or grown over them so if a picture is labelled unknown it's 'cos I couldn't find one.

Thanks for sharing Shelagh. Isn't Glasgow a beautiful place in the pouring rain! (before anyone has a go at me I'm a native and entitled to say what I like).

Lastly, problems sleeping?

Thanks Shelagh, the Orchid House looks well worth the visit, I wonder whether that is really Echium wildpretti though.

Yes Martin.

Brian I can only say it was one of the labelled ones but I'm now expert on succulents.
