Title: Automatic watering system
Post by: Cephalotus on April 26, 2012, 08:32:00 PM
Hello everyone,
some time ago, someone have sowed me a film about some automatic watering system. As I remember it looked exactly like a normal garden hose, but it was build from 3 layers. I am quite sure there were three. The middle one was a specific membrane. When the soil was moisten or it was raining, the membrane reacted on surrounding humidity and stopped the water. When the soil dried enough, the membrane allowed the water to drip again. I have NO idea where I saw it or what was the name of this special garden hose. I really regret I have not saved a name or a link to that page. I would be grateful if anyone could help me remind what it was.

Nearest I can find is this device : http://pkd.eijkelkamp.com/Portals/2/Eijkelkamp/Files/Manuals/M1-0803e%20Pressure%20membrane%20apparatus.pdf (http://pkd.eijkelkamp.com/Portals/2/Eijkelkamp/Files/Manuals/M1-0803e%20Pressure%20membrane%20apparatus.pdf)  which uses some similar technology.  :-\

Thank you Maggi for reply, but that is not that. If I will find it somehow I will post its name here for sure. I think it might have been a company from USA, maybe that is why I was not that much interested to remember it... As I remember this watering system was just and only that specific garden hose. No additional equipment. The soil humidity was the only controller. I will keep searching.

This is not what you mention either... but it's  quite interesting!

On the topic of automatic watering systems I have one. I have a 2 gallon bucket out in the garden that I use for washing pots (whenever I get round to washing any!) which I emptied last week. Today it's three quarters full again. Nature seems to do the job pretty effectively in these parts ::)

 ;D ;D ;D

I guess Chris has that particular watering system installed already, it probably doesn't function as adequately in Poland as it does in England  ;)
